Silica gel is a kind of hygroscopic dehydrating adsorbent that has a particular affinity to water. It usually comes in the form of small beads, granules or crystals. It is made of amorphous, chemically inert and non-poisonous silica dioxide. Wisedry flower drying silica gel crystals are specially designed to dry flowers and plants. Wisedry flower drying silica gel uses granular crystals that are less than 1 mm to dry flowers, providing better user experience.

It depends what flowers and how long you dry them. Generally they would come out crispier than before they are dried but they don’t easily break.

If orange beads have turned to dark green, they are saturated.

Technically it is feasible. However, drying flowers with stems may substantially add more difficulty to the process and fail to fully dry the flowers. The key to make beautiful dried flowers is to make sure the silica gel cover all parts of the flowers without damaging its integrity, therefore requiring the flowers to be put properly like suggested in the User Guide. Keeping a long stem when drying means it has to be placed sideways. The problem with this position is that silica gel may not cover all parts of the flowers and the flowers may be crushed. It is recommended that you dry flowers with the stems removed. If you wish to keep the stem, you can reattach the stem with floral wires after the flowers are fully dried.

Overheating the silica gel may permanently damage its lifespan. Turning blue means overheat has damaged the indicating material of silica gel and deprived of its ability to change color. Though it can still adsorb moisture, you will have to weigh them to judge whether they have fully saturated since the indicating function is lost.

Wisedry flower drying silica gel can be used on all different flowers. Note: some flowers may change color slightly.

To take out the flowers without ruining them, you should not only be careful and gentle but also you can make this easier with the help of some tools like colander to gently shake and settle the silica gel and remove the flowers. Note: small flowers are vulnerable after drying; please try not to bury too much silica gel on small flowers and be gentle when moving or taking out the flowers.

There is no definite answer as long as the flowers are fully covered with silica gel. Make sure the space between leaves and inside are also covered. Be careful not to crush the flowers with silica gel, especially the smaller flowers.

The best way to preserve dried flowers is to keep them in a sealed container with a layer of silica gel crystals inside as it keeps sunlight, winds and moisture away from your flowers. There are also many flower DIYS for you to try.

Keeping your flowers covered in silica gel for a long time is likely to make them more brittle and crispy. It’s recommended that you dry flowers of the same type together and check the status of the flowers regularly because different flowers dry at different rates. Normally it would only take 2-7 days. You can check the status of the flowers regularly if you’re afraid that they will come out too brittle.

Wisedry flower drying silica gel crystals are sand-like. They are specially designed for drying flowers. Compared with silica gel beads, silica gel crystals can better cover each petals more evenly and adsorb the moisture inside the flowers without crushing them, keeping their best shapes and delivering the best results.

We don’t recommend putting your wet phone inside the crystals. They are really fine and may get into your phone and lead to other problems. You can use Wisedry silica gel desiccant packets or an organza of silica gel beads (not crystals) to dry your wet phone if needed. They will work perfectly in drying your phone.

Don’t use flower drying crystals to dry foods as they are not designed for this. To dry foods, please purchase Wisedry silica gel desiccant packets.

There may have some remain but most dried flowers will lose most of the scent.

There is no simple answer to this question. If you wish to make them last and look good as long as possible, it’s best to keep your dried flowers in a sealed container and reduce the moisture, oxygen and light they get. With proper storing condition, they can last quite a long time even for years.

For drying flowers, granulated silica gel crystals deliver the best results because they have great absorbency and can prevent the flowers from crushing to the largest extent. The smaller the silica gel, the more dust there will be. Wisedry have made special treatment and reduced the silica dust to the minimum, but it’s still recommended that you wear a mask when using.

No. They will clog the pipes and cause unnecessary problems. Just throw in a regular trash bin if you wish to dispose of them.

There can be many reasons as to why this could happen. Overheat is one major reason and there are many contributing factors. ①Recharge time: if the desiccant packets are recharged longer than the time suggested even with the right mode or number, the package may melt due to overheat. For best results, please strictly follow the instructions in User Guide as much as you can. ②Wrong number: if the number of desiccant packets is less than what’s suggested in the instructions, the package may melt as every packet will get more heat than normally required to recharge. Overheat occurs. For best results, please strictly follow the instructions in User Guide as much as you can. ③Wrong mode: Setting the microwave or oven on wrong mode may also result in melting problem. Using stronger mode than suggested will result in overheat and melt the package. For best results, please strictly follow the instructions in User Guide as much as you can.

Assuming the silica gel’s indicating function is normal, there can be several reasons for this.

  • Not enough time
  • Too many packets
  • Wrong mode (temperature)

Note: after repeated recharging, the indicating function may be damaged (no color changes) but adsorbing function remains. They are still both usable and reusable.

There can be two reasons for the loss of indicating function:
1. Overheating may permanently damage the indicating function.
2. Repeated recharging and natural ageing.

Wisedry uses orange indicating silica gels to better help you know the right time to recharge. However, how fast these orange beads change color largely depends on the environment. Higher humidity level makes the beads turn green faster. If the humidity level is relatively low in a sealed space, then the color changing will be much slower. Please use longer to see if color changes. If the orange beads remain orange after some time in high humidity environment, please contact Wisedry support for a solution.

You can use the weighing method to determine the right time to recharge. Each Wisedry silica gel desiccant packet is able to adsorb around 32% of moisture relative to its own weight. Weigh the packets to see how much extra weight they have gained.

Yes. Wisedry silica gel desiccant packets can be used to dry almost anything in your life. They have high absorbency and are chemically stable. There will be no chemical reaction and you don’t need to worry about water leakage problem. It’s dust-free, non-toxic and reusable. For best results, larger space should apply larger specifications of desiccant packets and they work best in sealed space.

Orange indicating silica gel contains methyl violet as indicating material that changes from orange to green when saturated (change in PH). Wisedry silica gel packets meet the safety standard and are non-toxic, non-flammable and chemically inactive.
Except for some industrial purposes, we don’t recommend using blue indicating material because it contains cobalt chloride which is harmful to humans.

Silica gel packets work best in sealed space or else they will soon be saturated and won’t deliver the desired results. Please refer to the chart below to know how much you should use. (for reference)

It’s hard to tell exactly how fast they dry as there are many things to be considered like volume of the space, RH level, packet number, etc. It’s recommended that larger space and higher RH level should apply larger specifications. When the orange indicating beads have turned green, it’s time to recharge them for reuse.

No, it’s not recommended because extreme low temperature will nullify its adsorbing function.

There is no definite answer to this question. As long as the package remains undamaged, Wisedry silica gel desiccants are ready to use. Properly used, they can be recharged for at least more than ten times.
However, after repeated recharge the color indicating function may be damaged. If this happens, you will need to weigh the packets to determine whether they are saturated (please refer to How to know the right time to recharge if the indicating function is lost). Repeated charge will also gradually decrease the adsorbing efficiency of the silica gel packets. If needed, please replace with new packets to ensure a good preserving environment for your items.

Yes. Wisedry silica gel desiccants are food grade and are safe to directly use with foods. Note: do not directly place it in drinks or other liquid.

Normally you don’t need to. If they get dirty and you wish to clean them, be careful not to use water directly. You can wipe them clean with a cloth gently.
If you wish to dispose of them, simply throw them in any regular trash bin.

You might have seen those little packets placed inside some food packages and didn’t pay much attention to them because they are so common. In fact, oxygen absorbers are pretty helpful in many ways. If you have unpacked foods that are sensitive to oxygen and need further preserving, oxygen absorbers can offer the best help. Foods exposed to open air may lead to various problems such as pathogens, spoilage, insects, etc. These problems not only damage your foods’ taste, texture, color, but also potentially result in spoilage that may be harmful to your body. Oxygen absorbers can put an end to those troubles and extend your foods’ shelf life.

Inside oxygen absorbers packets are chemical mixtures including iron powders. If you accidentally consumed a small amount of oxygen absorbers, you should drink some water or milk to get the chemicals out of your body through urination. It is completely normal that oxygen absorbers heat up when in use. In fact, this proves that they are working, because by taking in oxygen, they convert the iron into iron oxide and gives off heat.

Condensation is a normal physical phenomenon when using oxygen absorbers. There is moisture in the air although we can’t see it. When oxygen absorbers react with oxygen, they will give out heat, which will cause temperature difference between the inside and outside of the jar, so a condensation occurs, just like condensations on windows or windshields in the winter. After all the oxygen inside the jar is removed, there will be no new reactions and the condensation will be gone.

Yes, you should vacuum seal the package once unpacked because the oxygen absorber packets will soon react and take in oxygen when exposed to it. Properly sealed, the unused oxygen absorber packets will stay fresh for a long time.

After properly packing the food with your mylar bag, you should push the extra air out and heat seal the mylar bag. It’s best to fill the mylar bag as much as you can if possible because in this way there will be less air in the bag. After this, you can place some oxygen absorber packets in to and heat seal with a hair straightener or an iron.

Yes. When stored together with foods in a sealed container, oxygen absorbers will take in all the oxygen within the container and prevent insects from growing.
